MIE received national re-certification as a Women's Business Enterprise by the Women's Presidents Organization of New York, a regional certifying partner of the Women's Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC). WBENC's national standard of certification implemented by the WPO is a meticulous process including an in-depth review of the business and site inspection. International Leaders in Cyber Security to Speak at NYS Conference

April 30, 2012

(Schenectady, NY) Melissa Hathaway, former White House cyber security expert and Billy Rios, Google's Team Lead for cyber security are featured keynote speakers at the 15th Annual NYS Cyber Security Conference, June 5-6th. Recognized as the premier Northeast conference for cyber security education, the event is co-hosted by the NYS Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services' Office of Cyber Security (OCS), The New York State Forum, Inc. and the University at Albany's School of Business and College of Computing and Information. The event draws approximately 1,000 professionals each year to the Capital Region.

This year's conference focuses on the future of cyber security. Melissa Hathaway will open the Conference with her perspective as a strategic advisor to private sector companies such as Cisco and Core SecurityTechnologies, as well as the US Government and Interpol. The complementary academic session, the Annual Symposium of Information Assurance (ASIA), engages security practitioners and researchers to foster the integration of academic research into practice. Billy Rios will present "The State of Industrial Control System Security: A Year in Review" at the symposium which runs concurrently with the main Conference and presents academic papers on information security topics by academic experts. In his session, Rios will review this year's top vulnerabilities, how they were discovered, and discuss how these vulnerabilities could have impacted real world systems.

The conference also offers 30 training sessions designed for a broad audience. Topics include sessions on cloud security, identity and credit card theft, mobile security, and child exploitation in cyberspace. Lance Spitzner, SANS co-founder of the Honeynet project, will lead a session building high impact security and awareness programs. From case studies by Cisco to cyber bullying by Krysten Moore, founder of Student's Helping Instill New Esteem (SHINE), the content is comprehensive.

MIE Launches Communication and Marketing Services

MIE launches new Marketing and Communication services as part of its slate of meeting and conference planning services. In addition to offering site selection, meeting management, registration, hotel negotiations, speaker coordination and exhibit and sponsorship coordination, MIE will offer to help clients improve the bottom line on their events through additional activities.

"More and more clients are asking us to incorporate Communication and Marketing services as part of our conference and event packages," says Brigitte Connors-Mare, MIE's President and CEO. "The client wants to avoid going back and forth between us and a marketing firm. We work with the conference details day in and out and can save time and money by adding the communication tasks related to the conference into our services." In cases where the client has in-house resources, MIE can still assist by creating the task list and timeline appropriate for the activities.

MIE Communication and Marketing Services include:

  • Setting up timelines and task lists related to communication and marketing activities;
  • Creating email templates and print outreach pieces such as 'Save The Date,' postcard mailers, invitations, and more;

Kim Perone Joins MIE to Develop Marketing and Communication Services for Clients

MIE is pleased to announce the hiring of Kim Perone to develop and lead the effort on a new Marketing and Communication service to clients. Clients are now able to contract for marketing and communication activities specific to the conference, allowing them great flexibility. These services are added to the traditional meeting planning services, such as site selection, hotel contract negotiations, meeting registration, speaker coordination, and on-site management. In addition, these services often add directly to the event bottom line in generating revenue from exhibit and sponsorship and additional attendance.

Perone is a communications professional with 20 years of experience in all aspects of communication, including public relations, marketing, media and employee relations, crisis communication, training, and new business development. Kim serves the meeting planning industry by engaging a communications and marketing strategy for clients involving social networking, traditional media, and exhibit and sponsorship sales.

"Offering clients the opportunity to add meeting and conference outreach within our scope of services, creates a tremendous amount of synergy. We save our clients time and money without question, as we are already well-versed on the details and goals and working on the event day in and out," states Perone.

After several years, Kim joined a global chemical company as the Manager of Corporate Communications where she developed and directed the public relations strategy and served as media spokesperson. In 2008, Kim returned to economic development working as Director of Membership and Communication at the Center for Economic Growth (CEG), a visionary and dynamic organization aimed at fostering Tech Valley in New York State.

Since 2010, Kim has been working as a consultant on various communication projects in both the public and private sector. As a community volunteer and consultant, Kim has experience assisting organizations in all aspects of communication and fundraising.

Kim was honored for her work in Schenectady by the Downtown Schenectady Improvement Corporation (DSIC) in 2006 and received a "40 Under Forty" award from the Capital District Business Review in 2007.
